Lesson Plans August 29th to Sept 2nd Earth Science Mrs. Moore
MS-ESS1-2 Develop and use a model to describe the role of gravity in the motions
within galaxies and the solar system.
Monday - Continue gravity experiment. Review making a hypothesis, write an experiment to prove hypothesis, followed by the collection of data - create charts and write conclusion. Homework is to watch Gravity Video homework on the Astronomy page of my web site. http://lombardmiddleschoolmrsmoore.weebly.com/astronomy.html
You will be asked to answer three questions. This needs to be completed before class on Wednesday.
Tuesday- Finish up our lab work and if time have a few groups present findings. If time we will watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwY6p-r_hyU If we run out of time this will be homework.
Wednesday- Phet interactivity https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/gravity-force-lab/latest/gravity-force-lab_en.html Students will use a model to understand the mass and distance affects on gravity. We will take the interactivity and transfer it to paper models. Students will be asked to create a picture that explains the relationship mass has to gravitational pull.
Thursday - DIscuss the Big Bang Theory. Interactivity on Cosmology http://highered.mheducation.com/olcweb/cgi/pluginpop.cgi?it=swf::535::365::/sites/dl/free/007299181x/59229/Cosmo_Nav.swf::Cosmology
Friday - Slow down day. We will review all our material and take time to talk about terminology. There will be a paper worksheet that is two sided given out in class to be done as homework. A copy of this is on the web page for astronomy under the homework section called astronomy_terms_homework plus the students will be asked to complete a simple scientific notation worksheet. I will complete several practise problems on the board for students to take notes on for assistance.
