Wednesday - Period 2,4,9
Thursday - Period 3,5,10
Friday ?

Monday/Tuesday - Start with a skyward review of relative and absolute dating questions. Turn in any missing homework and or ask any questions. We will dip our sponges again, and discuss the six types of fossil types as well as the 8 common Illinois fossils.  We will go over the 7 historical geological principles. Notes will be given on fossils and the 8 common Illinois fossils.  We will then turn our attention to our experiment on crystals.  Together we will create a lab write up for our experiment with crystal growth.  If time we will start the experiment.  No  homework.

Wednesday/ Thursday - Skyward assignment on relative/absolute dating, fossil types, and the 8 common Illinois fossils.  We will finish our crystal experiment with an analysis of the data and correctly writing a conclusion sentences.  We will start our work with a spreadsheet and data analysis, we will attempt to make an absolute dating chart.  We will make a model of mold/ cast fossils with pennies. To end with we will watch a powerpoint presentation on the 8 common Illinois fossils. Homework is a worksheet packet on fossil succession to support evolution, Packet will be due early next week. You will need colored pencils or markers to complete.

Friday -  What does this all mean?  We will make visual models of what we are trying to understand in class with relative/absolute dating, fossils, and evolution.  We will start to look at the rock cycle and see how this functions and helps us tell about the past.  Bring markers or colored pencils to class

Earth Science Class Mrs. Moore Lesson Plans Oct. 23-26

Monday Period 2,4,9
Tuesday - Period 3,5, 10
Wednesday - Period 2,4,9
Thursday - Period 3,5,10

Field Trip in a Box: Geology - Arches National Park (U.S. National ...Monday / Tuesday  Turn in homework. Start with a review skyward assignment.  We will start with our geology phenomena pictures and practice our relative dating skills.  We will take a break in the middle to discuss fossils/rocks/mineral and how we might relatively date them.  Students will be instructed on how a borax crystal is formed.  Students will be asked to contribute to a shared document by posing a hypothesis on age dating crystals.  Students will make a petrified sponge for next week. Homework is a packet of relative dating problems. The worksheet is on the web page and also attached to skyward.

Wednesday/ Thursday - Turn in homework. Start with two relative dating problems on skyward. We will dip our sponges and then continue to work on our crystal experiment.  Our goal is to write the experiment to prove our hypothesis.  Students will complete a simple absolute dating demonstration with pennies and m&m’s.   We will graph results on a spreadsheet and learn how to write a simple formula for spreadsheet. Homework is 3 absolute dating problems. The worksheet is on the web page and also attached to skyward.

Earth Science Lesson Plans Mrs. Moore Oct 16th - 19th

Earth Day ~ Mother Earth | background universe Earth by Nasa… | FlickrMonday - all classes
Tuesday - periods 2, 4, and 9
Wednesday - out early - Dr. Sundberg will visit
Thursday periods 3 and 5
Period 10 on Thursday will be taught by Knox College students.

Monday - New seating chart. Check grades, turn in any last minute work.   Phenomena day! We will look at a slide presentation of 12 different landforms.  Students will be asked to generate questions that they want answered so that they can explain how the landform was created.  We will organize our questions and look for a pattern and possible an essential question.  Homework is a simple worksheet, due in the next class.

Tuesday / Thursday  - Turn in homework. Look at our organization of all the questions asked on Monday.  We will make sure our organization of the questions is OK with each class.  Each class will then attempt to reconstruct geologic history on practice problems using the seven historical geologic principles.  Homework is a two sided worksheet on the first four principles, due Monday, Oct 23rd.

Both Homework assignments can be found on my web page for Earth Systems.

Friday is a crazy day - I am waiting for the schedule.

Tuesday - Kahoot 15 questions. Individual practice test.  Students will cover test preparation skills, organization for learning, destressors for taking a test.
Test will be Wednesday and Thursday. The test is open notes. There are two parts to the test. Part 1 is a repeat of the astronomy pretest, part 2 is the NGSS version of the astronomy test, and part 3 is an extra credit extended response question.
Wednesday/ Thursday  Test on astronomy.  Followed by rocket to the ceiling activity if time.
Friday?  Geology Principles - sequencing the order of rock layers from oldest to youngest. We will clean up the room from astronomy displays to geology information.

Period 2,4, and 9  Mon., Wed.,
Period 3,5, and 10 Tues., Thurs.
Friday - working on field trip to Carl Sandburg College

Free vector graphic: Astronaut, Space, Exploration - Free Image on ...Monday/Tuesday- Review material completed from last week. Students will start with looking at their grades and turning in any missing work.  Those all caught up can play the game of the week.  Second we will review the concepts of scale and proportion. We will relook at making a scale of the 8 planets in our solar system. Students will take notes that will be collected.  The remaining time will be to complete our project on our solar system to scale.
Wednesday/ Thursday - Start with a skyward short review quiz. Make a star finder. Student will choose a month to create a map of the stars in the night sky.  We will discuss why there are different charts and what causes the changes in the night sky. Plus we will look at telescope technology both refractors and reflectors.

Friday - planning on going to Carl Sandburg College for a college visit. We will learn about the programs they offer and what it takes to make it in college.
