Tuesday, Thursday Period 3, 5, and 10
All classes Friday March 2.

Day 1 Monday/ Tuesday
Start with a skyward review assignment. Remind all students to turn in late or missing work,
especially the articles.  We will create a model of a developing volcano.  Students will be
required to create a drawing trifold of the beginning, middle and end of the model. On the back of
the paper students will be asked to compare volcanoes to mountains.  Students will have
computer time to compare mountains to volcanoes. Part 2 of our lesson - We will go over the
exercise on the web page https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/vsc/predict/EP_look_1000.html followed by
a shared spreadsheet of data to predict three possible volcanic eruptions.  Homework is to
research one current or recent erupting volcano with in the last 10 years.  Students need to find
out if it was predicted or not and why.  Students need to cite sources to explain their answer, due
Friday.  Answers should be in paragraph form.

Day 2  Review all material from Continental Drift, Plate Tectonics, Earthquakes, and Volcanoes.
Review convection currents and how it is the major cause of plate movement and volcanoes.
We will go over the glass container demo from the beginning of the unit.  We will look at  essay
questions that will be given as an assessment on Friday.  We will talk about what it will take to
answer the questions thoroughly.  Students will be given the option to work on the questions at
home and/or in class on Friday.

Friday - Unit Assessment - Start our next unit on Weathering and Erosion.

Moore Lessons 2-20 to 2-23

Feb. 20th - Feb.23rdhttps://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4128/5127279893_8de7bc35fc_b.jpg
Tuesday, Thursday Period 2, 4, and 9
Wednesday, Friday Period 3, 5, and 10

Day 1 - Review earthquake data map assignment and volcano hapara assignment. Start https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/vsc/predict/EP_look_1000.html
No New homework.

Day 2 - We will start with a skyward assignment. Students will then review the tools needed to predict volcanic eruptions.  We will then complete a balloon activity to simulate volcanic eruptions.  We will try to relate the balloon to a volcano.  Viscosity will be discussed. We will create a demonstration to show the effects of viscosity of lava/magma and what that could do to the explosiveness of a volcano.  No additional homework.  Please complete all assignments.

Mrs. Moore Lesson Plans Feb, 11th - Feb. 15th

Earth Science Class

Monday, Wednesday Period 2, 4, and 9
Tuesday, Thursday Period 3, 5, and 10
Feb. 20th - Feb.23rd
Tuesday, Thursday Period 2, 4, and 9
Wednesday, Friday Period 3, 5, and 10

Monday/ Tuesday - Finish up SuperVolcano, review assignment on creating a seismic map of the USA with the last 6 years of data, and have time for lots of makeup work.  Review skyward assignment.

Wednesday/ Thursday   Start with short video clips. Notes on volcanoes and vocabulary terms.  We will make the point that volcanoes are located on plate boundaries.  Both Earthquakes and volcanoes are results of heat movement from the center of the planet to the  crust. Plate tectonics earthquakes and volcanoes are all interrelated.  Students will fill out a picture of a volcano naming the different parts.  Students will complete a short interactivity. http://www.glencoe.com/sites/common_assets/science/virtual_labs/ES09/ES09.html
We will finish up with a hapara assignment creating a slide presentation of famous volcanoes.

Tuesday/ Wednesday
Start with a skyward assignment on plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes.  We will discuss how and why volcanoes erupt.  We will see if there is a way to predict eruptions.  We will try to create an experiment to prove our ideas are correct or off base.  We will be looking at viscosity of magma, temperature of magma, amount of gas in magma, ect.

Thursday/ Friday - Plan is to complete the experiment, graph the results and share with our classmates.  We may find that there are other experiments that need to be completed to find out the information we want to know.

Wednesday, Friday Period 3, 5, and 10

Monday/ Tuesday  Feb 5th/6th - Day 1
Skyward review assignment.  Review plate tectonics with clay. Notes on earthquakes, We will look at our seismic safe structures and make a list of what needs to be present to make a seismic safe structure. We will look at some new technology. https://www.digitaltrends.com/home/this-earthquake-proof-bed-drops-you-out-of-harms-way/
We will go back to the interactive on my web page. http://www.glencoe.com/sites/common_assets/science/virtual_labs/ES09/ES09.html
We will end with an activity where students will have to use current data from USGS to create a seismic zone map. Assignment is due by Friday.

Wednesday - Super Volcano with question. Booster movie with pop and popcorn

Thursday Friday Feb. 8th/9th - Day 2 We will start with an activity on liquefaction and then a short demo on tsunami.  Students will watch a video about both concepts.  We will have time to ask questions about our seismic zone maps.  We will look again at usgs to see the current data on earthquakes and volcanoes.  Students will start a presentation on volcanoes around the world.  The assignment will be on Hapara - mystudentdashboard.com

Hopefully we will not have any snow days to off set our plans. If we do then as always I will be flexible with our work.
