Lesson Plans Earth Science Lombard Middle School Mrs. Moore 8th Grade


August 26th - 30th and Sept 3rd - 6th
Weekly reading - 
Week 3

Monday / Tuesday -  Review safety and take safety Post test. We will review our lab from last week and see our good and bad points.    We will go over the correct procedures to light a science burner. Astronomy Pretest on skyward. Each question is worth .1 points total is 5 points.  Final test is worth 50 points. Homework is a matching terms with definitions sheet on astronomy terms. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qHGgG3TfqQYwbl7smYgLK9sRRD3_GYvECgVmCPtPzLo/edit Homework is due Wednesday of next week 9-5.
Wednesday/ Thursday    Review density lab from last week. Students will complete a lab on convection currents - students will create a lava lamp of sorts.  We will relate this to gravity, density, volume, and mass. Any remaining time can be spent on homework worksheet or the weekly reading. This lab will be graded for content.
Friday/ Tuesday  Chromebook notes on Astronomy terms with pictures. Each student will be given a term to illustrate.  We will share a copy of our illustrated notes with everyone. We will discuss how mass, volume,space, and gravity plays a part in our universe. While students are creating their illustration each will be called up to practice light the burner with the aid of the teacher. Homework worksheet will be due Wednesday 9-5. 
Wednesday/ Thursday  - VIdeo on the beginning of the Universe.  Students will watch 3 different videos to help understand the concept.  Students will be asked to create a chart that explains which video was the best for them to understand the concept. Students will be asked to think of models that would represent the concept.  We will share our papers/charts and models in class and turn it in at the end of the class. No homework except to finish the weekly reading.
Friday - All classes  Math day. We will look at the numbers of the expansion and try to understand what it really means. We will cover scientific notation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  There will be 6 word problems that will be given to work on in class if time. The work not completed in class will be homework.
