Period 2,4, and 9  Mon., Wed.
Period 3,5, and 10 Tues., Thurs.

Monday/ Tuesday
Collect worksheet homework.  Review life cycle of a star chart.  Rework several gravity problems. Continue our work on understanding patterns of the apparent motion of the sun, the Earth the moon, and stars in the sky.  We will describe, predict, and explain moon cycles with models.  We will use clay models first, followed by a class demonstration.  We will watch four different videos in between our modeling and discussions. Homework is to look at the night sky to see where we are in our moon cycle. Be prepared to answer questions about what you see when you return to class on Wed., Thurs.

Wed/ Thurs
Collect homework moon cycle sheets.  Review questions on Skyward. Work through a moon cycle simulation followed by a moon cycle game.
Students will create models using oreo cookies. A picture of the finished product must be sent to Mrs. Moore - stallman@galesburg205.org- before it is consumed.  We will again model solar and lunar eclipses. We will conclude the lesson with questions about how this moon cycle affect humans on Earth; tides, weather patterns, crime ect.

***During this week's lessons I will point out the tilt of the Earth and how it is fixed.  I will reinforce knowledge of seasons as a result of Earth’s location in its revolution around the Sun and the angle at which the Sun’s rays hit the circular planet Earth.

Friday/Monday -
Calculate gravity pull for all 8 planets and create a scale of  distance in our solar system to perform the walking solar system simulation. Start planets to scale project.

Next Generation Science Standards
MS-ESS1-1 Earth’s Place in the Universe - Develop and use a model of the Earth-sun -moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases, eclipses of the sun and moon, and seasons.
MS-ESS1-2 Earth’s Place in the Universe - Develop and use a model to describe the role of gravity in the motions within galaxies and the solar system.

MS-ESS1-3 Analyze and interpret data to determine scale properties of objects in the solar system
