Lesson Plans Earth Science Lombard Middle School Mrs. Moore 8th Grade 10-7 to 10-18


Monday/ Tuesday- Start with a skyward assignment.  We will also look at the recent earthquakes
around the New Madrid fault.  We will then review the space exploration stem assignment. Students
will continue making their device to hold the egg (astronaut) and the device to launch the egg to the
moon (Star Wars pillow).  Students will see different designs and have a discussion on how to
evaluate each design. Students will be given time to redesign/fix /finish their project. We will stop
with 20 minutes left to launch our eggs.  If time we will discuss how to write a paper about the
difficulties of space travel. 
Wednesday/ Thursday - Watch Apollo 13 in class with a questions sheet. Mrs Moore will be gone
on Thursday to study wetlands on the Mississippi with a class of 2nd grade students.  Students need
to be on their best behavior. No computers or headphones in class today, please.
Friday - all classes Finish movie if necessary and start our group lesson on writing a paper in
science. We will make a claim and outline three points to support our claim.  Homework will be to
find evidence to support our points.
Monday - All Classes - Skyward assignment.  Continue to work on our paper- Focus on what a
good scientific paragraph looks like and how to get information from a scientific source.  We will try
to get to the conclusion paragraph. This will be a class together project and a model for our first
thinkcerca.  
Tuesday / Wednesday - Review for our astronomy test.  Make sure everyone has all of there
articles completed.
Thursday/ Friday - Astronomy test
