Lesson Plans February 21st to February 24th 2017 Mrs. Moore Earth Science



Tuesday/Thursday Periods 2,4,and 9
Wednesday/Friday Period 3,5, and 10

Day 1 - review skyward assignment.  Diagram how a can of soda is like a volcano.  We will create notes of plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes in groups of two.  The notes will be displayed around the room. New terms will be introduced; lahar, conduit, sill, dike, flank, parasitic cone, tephra, volcanic bombs, super volcanoes, fissure events, shield volcanoes, cryptodomes, cinder volcanoes, and composite volcanoes. We will discuss different graphs/charts and explain the effects of volcanoes on humans. Run through an old powerpoint on volcanoes. Homework is to create an individual slide presentation of 12 different volcanoes, assignment will be on mystudentdashboard.com. This will be due Monday next week.

Day 2 Review skyward assignment on volcanoes.  Review diagrams made on day one.  Discuss current volcanic activity in the world and the effects on humans. We will watch several videos of volcanic eruptions looking for key geologic features as well as identify human effects.  We will be looking for possible ideas to test in our classroom about volcanoes - ma
